Soundscapes

Sitting in nature for a moment has lead to the most amazing experiences, both sound and visual. Each beach, each forest, each wonder of nature offers something new and astounding and I can only say that recording these sounds is a true gift.

I have always loved sounds.

When I was dealing with my chronic health condition, I stumbled across ASMR and discovered the richness of sound beyond our simple hearing. For those who don’t know ASMR stands for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response, and it can come from sound or visual things. For me ASMR became a great chill space.

From ASMR I moved to music creation with Still Whispers which then led me to my Soundscapes. I wanted to incorporate nature soundscapes and experiment with other sounds within my music which had me seeking a handheld recorder and the great outdoors. Through the collection of these amazing sounds I fell completely in love with the process.

I found that once I had a recorder in hand and headphones on my head it changed the way I heard sounds and even how I thought about sound. Suddenly sounds that I used to find irritating suddenly became beautiful in their own right.

I found that sound was like discovering the lush rainforests in Queensland and then experiencing the vast stark deserts of Northern Territory and Western Australia; both have their own amazing beauty. Now I seek out any and every interesting sound I come across whilst we travel.

It hasn’t all been sunsets and rainbows though as field recording has not been the easiest path and has meant a lot of self-learning and a lot of mistakes (including changing what I use to record with). I have had to deal with wind and ever-changing weather, learnt to be patient, and willing to capture sounds that might be different to what I expected. A typical day could range from recording ambient noise in a car park to recording the rolling waves on the next amazing beach we come across.

Whatever the journey is, I know I love listening to a vast range of sounds and want to share this with anyone who is interested. To begin with it was all about sounds for my own music, but I soon found myself recording such a diverse range of sounds that I felt it was almost a waste to simply store them on a hard drive. This is when Alexa Soundscape was born, a brand for me to share my sounds with others.

I originally started this journey under the name Skigh Sounds with the intention of selling my sounds to other creators but an artists evolution happened putting this into the background. Now Alexa Soundscape has become a brand of itself for all the amazing sounds I wish to share with everyone for personal use with the goal to make them available on more platforms. Currently you can find all the sounds I am releasing alongside Still Whispers on my YouTube channel Alexa Soundscape. Or you can purchase my Soundscapes at Bandcamp.
